Biodiversity is the result of 3.5 billion years of evolution. “Bio” means life. “Diversity” means variety. Thus, “biodiversity”, which is short for “biological diversity”, is the term used to describe the whole variety of life on Earth. Biological variety has been identified at three levels:

All Interdependent !The term “biodiversity” also reminds us that no single organism lives in isolation. Millions of creatures on Earth interact with each other. Everything depends on everything else. The many different ways, in which all species get connected, contribute to the balance of the global ecosystem and the survival of the planet. In brief, our world is just like a complex web. Break one connection, then the whole web may change. |

What Are the Threats ?Biodiversity is under threat from various dangers, and most of them have been caused by humans. Like other living things, we use natural resources to survive. However, we are far more destructive to other forms of life than any known species.
In general, biodiversity is threatened by the sum of all human activities. |
